As an operational trader, Chris was present at two market openings – in 2001 for the UK’s move to the New Electricity Trading Arrangements, and 2002 whilst seconded to a Nuclear station in Canada when Ontario’s energy market opened up to competition.
Chris then created the asset optimisation teams, moving to heading up EDF Energy Trading and Operations capabilities between 2009 and 2017.
As Vice Chair of the FOA’s Power Trading Committee and as Chair of Energy UK’s Wholesale Markets subcommittee, Chris helped create the current energy market we have today, making changes to the energy trading products, negotiating the current Mandatory Market Making rules as well as making changes to allow customer’s assets to be re-optimised closer to real time. He is now using this experience to bring new types of flexibility management and contract types into the customers business looking at Demand Side Response, Electric Vehicles, Battery Optimisation and Energy Efficiency – and still found time to compete in the amateur stage of the 2017 Tour-de-France.
Chris has a background in Physics and complements this with an MBA.
