Why does Made Smarter have a presence at the event?
Made Smarter is exhibiting at the Industry 4.0 Summit & Expo to raise the profile of the newly-launched digitalisation programme dedicated to enabling the growth of SME manufacturers and engineers. Backed by some of the world’s biggest businesses and UK government Made Smarter offers fully-funded advice, resources and industry specialist insight into how cutting-edge technologies can drive growth, competitiveness and efficiency as well as up to 50% grant-funding for project implementation.
Why is the north west an important location for the pilot programme?
The North West Pilot centres around getting real, practical and tangible advice out to small and medium-size businesses across the North West who are keen to adopt a technology like robotics, or initiate their first venture into data analytics, or get involved with making a part using additive manufacturing, but don’t know how. The creation of dedicated a support service in the North West that will help manufacturers not only answer them but get some real practical help to start implementing them.
The North West was selected for the pilot based on its history as a dynamic manufacturing region during industrialisation, from mining, metal-working, chemicals and transportation to textiles. Today there are over 14,500 manufacturing companies operating in the region and the region contributes to over 15% of total UK manufacturing output. The North West is also a strong exporter, accounting for nearly 10% of total UK manufacturing exports.
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said of Made Smarter North West:
“From cottonopolis to graphene, Greater Manchester has a long tradition of leading the world in new forms of manufacturing and commercial innovation.
“Through Made Smarter North West we now have a fantastic opportunity to embed digital technology and advanced manufacturing throughout our manufacturing industry and wider supply chains.”
How Made Smarter is looking to engage with the manufacturing community?
Made Smarter North West has been developed specifically to engage with manufacturers to address concerns around technology solutions, which technologies will bring the greatest benefits, and how much to invest. Through fully-funded, dedicated advice, support and a programme of match-funded grants Made Smarter will offer hundreds of North West companies the chance to tackle existing challenges, explore new ideas and drive their growth.
What will Made Smarter be doing at Industry 4.0?
